Surveys by Ramsbottom Urban District Council.

Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts 1899 – 1923 Valuation Survey Sheets.

Mortgages on older properties were difficult to obtain and so Local Authority Valuations were made to enable house purchasers to obtain a larger mortgage.

With a local authority survey (guarantee) you could get a mortgage (usually from the council)  of up to around 90% of the property’s value. Without the guarantee you could only get a mortgage of up to about 50%

The survey included a written survey and hand-drawn plan the originals of which are kept  Bury Archive
