The society was formed in 1987 to record the past and present history of the town
for future generations and historians. Our large archive of donated photographs,
documents and maps-
We are unable to spend any time researching any Family trees or history of houses e.t.c. although if there are requests these can be asked at the monthly meetings when one or more members may be able to help. The area of our interest is defined by the limits of old ( pre 1947) Ramsbottom Urban
District Council-
We are an active society and in addition to monthly meetings with speakers on subjects connected to the area, we organise guided walks, encourage members and others to record the present time by photographic changes in the town for the annual photographic competition, to research the past ( and if possible publish the findings) and to tape record the memories of our older citizens.
Indoor meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Ramsbottom Civic
Hall, 7:30pm refreshments are available, visitors are very welcome and there is ample

Membership of the society costs £9 a year for individual membership, with concessions for Senior Citizens, students, and for family membership.
