My father was born in 1900 and the address on the birth certificate is Nuttall Hall.  The family story is that he was born in a room on a bridge that spanned a road.  The address given in the 1901 census is No 1 Nuttall Road.  It occurs to me that it may have been an arched gatehouse to the hall.  Was there such a thing at that time?

I saw in the Lancashire Telegraph that the Ramsbottom Heritage Society had

put up a plaque commemorating Peter McDouall which triggered a chain of

thought concerning McDouall's associates in Ramsbottom during the 1840's.

I am looking into family history. Most seem to originate in Bank Lane. Is there any definition of this? It seems to be a vague area between Peel Brow and Shuttleworth.

John Greenhalgh was born in 1794 to John & Mary (believed to be Brooks) in Holcombe, the information suggests he was one of six children born in the district to John & Mary.

John married Mary Shaw in 1814 in St. Mary's Bury, he was transported to Australia in 1821. Mary followed in 1823. It is believed that both his father John & he were stocking weavers.

We would like information on our house. The address is on Stubbins Lane and we have been told that our semi used to be a pub called the White Horse or White Lion.

Since the setting up of this web site, the society has been asked several questions about aspects of Ramsbottom and the houses and people who have lived there in the past. Whilst the Society is unable to spend time researching, here are a sample of the questions asked with answers were possible.

Please e-mail if you have a question or an answer to one of the questions, or any information

Some of the questions have referred to the Zeppelin Air Raid of 1916. One of the members has researched this, and the details are here. If you have anything further, please contact us
