 There is evidence of renovation to this house throughout it’s history

 In 1907 the house belonged to Mrs Armstrong who submitted plans for the following alterations

                                this is probably the oldest opening window still existing in Crow lane

  

KITCHEN - history of the kitchen

1907            plans for a sloping roof  

1955                plans show the kitchen  had a partly glazed roof  & timber  -

2002                The current owner found that the kitchen had a flat roof and

was made of breeze blocks  (Breeze blocks are probably later  than 1907

The kitchen has now been fitted with a sloping roof with skylights, probably similar to the one planned in 1907

 

 FIREPLACES

 Front room fireplace- original or around the turn of the century - see photo

 Living room fire (back room)  -  see photos

The original would have been a cast iron range

1955         -  bungalow range

just removed – Cannon gas fire

current – reproduction cast iron fire with tiled surround  and a living gas fire

                        current

Fire place in the hall – found when the owner took the plaster off the wall

            The chimney goes up inside the wall – there is no chimney breast

            The chimney was still open once he had opened the fireplace

 

            Does not appear in 1902 (might not have needed to include it as

the propose of  the plans was for the alterations

Does not appear in 1955 – must have been blocked up

   

Fires in bedroom – original in the front bedrooms upstairs

            Replacement cast iron fire in back bedroom

 

CEILINGS

            Ceiling mouldings (cornice) original

            Moulding around hall light – cast iron

 

STAIRS       Stairs – moulding or carving probably original.

 

UPSTAIRS DOORS - some of these are original
